Wangdue Phodrang

The valley covers a large area, from the northern snow capped mountains to the cold damp glacial valley of Phobjikha and stretching to the warm breezy town of Wangdi. This is the last town before we connect to the central Bhutan.

Wangdi Phodrang Dzong
The Dzong stands majestically on a hill top overlooking between a confluences of river. This Dzong played a crucial role in the past in unifying the West, Central and Southern Bhutan districts.

Gangtey Goenpa / Phobjika Valley
Further east of Wangdi Phodrang, Gantey Goenpa is a beautiful clustered valley, and further few kilometers, on the valley floor is the valley of Phobjikha. This is the winter home to the Black Necked Cranes that migrate from the arid planes in the north in Tibet to pass their winter in milder and lower climate.
